Oak Hall School is a K-12 private school in Gainesville Florida that was in desperate need of an improved, user-friendly website. This was one of the largest websites I had build and brought with it many unique challenges. Oak Hall was a team effort with me as the lead developer.
Like most of my websites, I relied on WordPress and a handful of plug-ins like Advanced Custom Fields to get me started. I then hand-coded the custom theme, build out the necessary custom post types, and structured the page data.
The biggest challenge with Oak Hall School was the menu. Education websites typically have an enormous amount of pages. This particular site had a main menu and several smaller menus, which proved to be challenging with both responsive and the particular design that the designer had put together. I utilized special ACF fields tied to top-level menu items where I could store the videos, then used some Javascript to swap out each video when a user hovers over its respective menu item.
